MBA Concentration in Business Analysis

Business Analysis (corporate term Business Analytics) is a set of tools, techniques, and methodologies that support the translation of data assets into "actionable" (useful for decision-making) information.

 

What does a business analyst do? She/he is uniquely suited for career in any business area that requires sophisticated analytical (and modeling) skills. Some traditional career paths include accounting analysis, marketing analysis, financial analysis, operations and systems analysis, production/manufacturing analysis or applications in other functional and strategic areas. The business analysis major equips one with sophisticated statistical/data mining, management science, modeling and operations research skills. These skills combined with functional expertise can lead to powerful specializations. The contextual topics include data warehousing, data mining, online analytical processing, enterprise resource planning, supply chain management and customer relationship management.

 

Course Requirements

 

Foundation Course:

 

MBA 7020  Business Analysis Foundations (1.5) or equivalent.

 

Required Courses for Concentration and Major (nine semester hours)

This partially fulfills the Group D catalog requirements for the MBA.


        MGS 8020    Business Intelligence (3)

        MGS 8150    Business Modeling (3)

        MGS 8040    Data Mining (3)

 

Elective Courses: Select additional three semester hours (one course) for a concentration and nine semester hours (three courses)

for a major from the following. This completes the catalog requirements for Group D courses and optional Group F (major) courses.
